Kurt Warner has to be one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. His resume speaks for itself: 2-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl XXXIV MVP, and holds some of the NFL’s most prestigious QB records. There’s no doubt Kurt Warner will one day be in the Hall of Fame.

I recently caught up with Kurt Warner at EA Sports launch of Madden 11. Warner participated in the 2nd annual NFL Pigskin Pro-Am pitting celebrities along with Hall of Famers in a high-scoring football game. I asked him some questions about his post-retirement routines, Matt Leinart, postseason predictions, and the game itself.

What have you been doing since retirement?

“I just continue to work out all the time. I play a lot of basketball now that I’m done with playing football. Keep myself in shape, still do a little bit of lifting, but you build up a routine after playing this game for so long that you don’t just get away from it even though you just retire. For me just doing a lot of different things, changing it up, keeping it fresh so I don’t get bored of working out and I can stay in shape.”

Any words for Matt Leinart?

“I talk to Matt all the time, and for me, it’s just ‘relax and play football. Don’t try to live up to anybody’s expectations except your own. Go out there and relax, and play the game.’ I think that’s what’s going to be the key. Quit looking at everything around him and quit looking at what people are saying and just be Matt Leinart. Do what you’ve always done to have success, and I think with that he’s going to have a lot of success.”

Who are your SB picks for next season?

Oh, man. I haven’t even thought about it yet. The usual suspects are going to be there. I think the Vikings, assuming Brett comes back, will be there. I think the Saints are going be there. The Colts are going to be around. I think the Ravens, who have made some great additions; I think they are going to be up there, too. I think it’s just a crapshoot right now. It’s tough to make those guesses at this point and time but I think there are a lot of teams that improve themselves and it’s going to be a fun year.”

What do you think will happen first: Brett Favre will decide to return or T.O. will sign with a team?

“Well, I think it’s just a matter of [Brett] saying yes or no but I wouldn’t be surprised if T.O. gets a team here quickly. A great football player can add a lot to any team. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens real quickly.”

It’s your first game in a while, how many touchdowns today?

“I don’t know. This is going to be a fun game. I’m hoping we’re up in the 10-11 range but I don’t know. I’ve never played in this setting before so we’ll check it out.”

With Joe Montana throwing some passes to Jerry Rice near us, I asked him who his number one receiver would be in the game:

“I got Sterling Sharpe. I got Michael Irving. I’ve got to say that one of those two guys are going be my primary receiver, but hopefully I’ve got some guys that nobody knows about; some secret weapons in the celebrities that I’m playing that kind of come out of the woodwork and become my primary receiver in the day.”
